| Woodstock Water? Now and Forever??? |
 |
| The wells that produce the drinking water for the Woodstock Water System were drilled over 40 years ago in the area known as the Bearsville Flats. They have produced pure water for many years, while the area around the wells has both aged and become more built up, increasing the potential for ground water contamination from fuel tanks and septic systems. Voice Yourself - Humans cannot survive without clean air, water and food. We have distanced ourselves from the fact that people are as natural as a tree, stone or drop of water. We take the health of our planet for granted; forgetting we are connected to the earth. Harmful and abusive practices - polluting the air, soil and water; clear-cutting our vital forests; adding known toxins into the food we eat and the products we use - has been allowed to escalate unchecked for far too long. You ask, "what can I do?" "How can I make a difference?" You can make a difference through your everyday choices and behaviors. We realize this is difficult, but that's why we are here. Voice Yourself is a site dedicated to encouraging positive action and change; we give you the tools and the information to transform your world for the better.
Woodstock, Our Town
We are a group of Woodstock residents who have come together to consider the issues of how we as a community communicate amongst ourselves and with the people in town government. By promoting efforts for community members to discuss issues that concern Woodstock, we hope to encourage more community participation and a revitalized sense that we are all responsible for the quality of life in our town.

Woodstock Farm Market - coming spring 2008
Save Our Supermarket: Woodstock When the Grand Union chain went under, CVS/Pharmacy began gobbling up many of their former supermarket locations, replacing them with mega-pharmacies. Many towns were left with no local supermarket. New Rules Project - Impact of Chain Stores on Community Chain store proliferation has weakened local economies, eroded community character, and impoverished civic and cultural life......... Contrary to conventional wisdom, the decline of independent businesses is not inevitable, nor is it simply the result of free market forces. Cooperatives, columbia.edu Information about cooperatives around the country OPEN-AIR (markets) The World Wide Guide to Farmers' Markets, Street Markets, Flea Markets and Street Vendors Vendors and Markets in Jeopardy! Pike Place Market is a special place. This nine-acre historic district hosts nine million visitors each year who come to experience the unique sites and sounds of Seattle's downtown public market. Helping to make up the Market experience are more than 100 farmers, 150 craftspeople, nearly 300 commercial businesspeople and 50 performers. But the Market is much more than a Seattle attraction. It also provides a home to 500 residents, most of whom are low-income seniors, as well as a variety of services for the needy |

Anchor Mill, North Carolina - 32 acres
This project is the first attempt in the county to intentionally create a transit-oriented development to become a part of a larger system. This system will include a series of town centers, along the North-South transit corridor, each of them not entirely complete with all the necessary uses, but each of them covering a range of daily and more specialized needs.
Carfree Cities proposes a delightful solution to the vexing problem of urban automobiles.
Center for Liveable Communities organizes a variety of conferences, workshops, and training sessions on land use and transportation-related issues. The Center publishes a monthly newsletter, Livable Places Update, and has produced a variety of easy-to-read guidebooks that explore models and tools for improving land use and transportation planning.
Cornelius, North Carolina - 128 acres
The Cornelius Plan resulted from a unique approach to the standard public/ private venture. Following the example of many of the finest developments of the prewar era around the world, Cornelius purchased a large vacant property adjacent to its town core. A master plan was completed and vested on to the property. The development community, along with citizens and Town officials participated in the charette, producing a Master Plan that was then marketed to perspective developers.
Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company
Transit oriented development from Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company
Santa Cruz Walk and Roll - Santa Cruz County enjoys weather that is generally well-suited for walking and bicycling, a bus system that has one of the highest per capita riderships of any community its size in the U.S., and community-wide interest in making investments to protect the beauty and livability of the area.
Over the next 15 years, the County will be building on this foundation with innovative transportation projects that have proven successful at protecting community livability: HOT-Bus lanes, a Bus Rapid Transit system, and significant upgrades to bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The discussions and resources on this site are designed to keep community members up-to-date on relevant developments in these areas and to provide a venue for public discussion to help bring out the best in these projects.
Walkable Communities, Inc. is a non-profit corporation, established in the state of Florida in 1996. It was organized for the express purposes of helping whole communities, whether they are large cities or small towns, or parts of communities, i.e. neighborhoods, business districts, parks, school districts, subdivisions, specific roadway corridors, etc., become more walkable and pedestrian friendly.
